Hello, Yesterday I was at a book club and suddenly this recurrent and eternal question popped out. Of course there are a lot of versions to seize this difference, but non of them is universally accepted as the correct one. The way I see it is that it doesn't matter lenght, number of characters or any of those facts. I'd go directly to the core of a book, the narrative stream and checkig how many characters does it touch and how deeply involves them. Then we'd consider the number of characters whose mind and lifes are depicted and tried to explain to the reader. Obviously this takes more time to develope and thus, it covers the theory of the lenght of the work. I'd like to know your ideas on this discussion. I didn't find the right solution from the internet. References: www.worldliteratureforum.com/forum/showthread.php/30572-Difference-between-short-story-and-novellaWhiteboard Explainer Video

But anyways, in regards to difference between short story and novella, I think size does matter for sure - but there is no exact measurement I agree. It really should be about size because if too long a story it just can't be defined as short or novella - so in my opinion, there isn't a significant difference between short stories and novella.
